Radiologic Technology Program
Looking for a career with a future?
Think about Jefferson State's Radiologic Technology Program.
The program begins in the Fall semester each year with the application
period in the Summer semester. The radiology application contains the
information regarding specific dates for the application deadline.
Our RAD program was one of the first of its kind in an Alabama 2 year
College. Prior to the establishment of junior college programs, students
were trained by hospitals and received no academic credit. Students now
complete prerequisite general education courses before being admitted into
the RAD program. Upon admission into the program, students are involved in
clinical activities at the main campus and area hospitals to gain further
"hands on" knowledge. Most clinical rotations are from 7 am-3 pm.
Graduates of Jefferson State's program are awarded an associate in
applied science degree and are eligible to request to write the National
Registry Exam given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists to
become a registered Radiologic Technologist.
Once registered as a radiographer, you will be eligible for employment in
hospitals, emergency clinics or doctor's offices. Later, if you decide to
continue your education, you can apply many credits earned in the associate
degree program at Jefferson State toward a four year degree at the
University of Alabama, Birmingham or other Universities.
