GED Examination Information
Locations
- Jefferson Campus - The GED examination is given every
Wednesday. Applicants are required to register
prior to their desired examination date. You can register any Monday,
Tuesday or Thursday 9:00am-3:00pm in the ACT
Center (Lurleen Wallace Hall, Room 322).
- Shelby-Hoover Campus -
Students may also register for the GED Monday-Friday 8:00am-3:30pm in
the Health Science Building Room 134. For test dates call (205)

Fees
Examination fees for the GED examination are payable in cash only and
are due on the day of the registration. The fee for first time test
is $50.00. Retest fees are $10.00 per test.
Applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
- Be a resident of the state of Alabama.
- Be officially withdrawn from high school.
- Be eighteen years of age
- (Exceptions: Sixteen or seventeen-year-olds may test with a
notarized permission letter from their parent/legal guardian and proof
of official withdrawal from high school.
GED Identification Requirements
GED applicants must present a Social Security card and
one the following forms of identification
at the time of registration and again on the day of the examination:
- Current driver's license
- Current passport
- Current United States military identification
- Current state issued, non-driver identification
- School or other government identification cards which show the
examinee's name, address, date of birth, and recognizable photo
Applicants not meeting identification requirements will not be admitted
to the examination session.
The entire GED examination will last approximately 8 hours, including a
five-minute break between each section of the test and a thirty-minute
lunch break. The GED examination consists of the following subtests:
- Language Arts, Writing - 2 hours
- Language Arts, Reading - 1hour, 5 minutes
- Mathematics Part 1 - 45 minutes
- Mathematics Part 2 - 45 minutes
- Science - 1hour, 20 minutes
- Social Studies - 1hour, 10 minutes
GED Score Report Information
The Testing and Assessment Office issues GED score reports to
individuals that have taken the GED Examination at Jefferson State
Community College. Those who have taken the test must submit a written request for each
requested score report. Requests must include:
- the examinee's full name
(including any maiden and/or previous last names)
- date of birth
- social
security number
- the complete mailing address to which the score report
should be mailed
- and the examinee's personal signature.
Requests may be
submitted at the ACT Center (Lurleen Wallace Hall, Room 322), or
examinees may mail written requests to:

Requests can not be made by phone or email because the student's
signature is required to release his/her score report.
There is a $5.00 fee (With the exception of transcripts sent to Jefferson
State Community College Enrollment Services) for each requested
transcript (payable to Jefferson State Community College). Score reports
issued to examinees will be stamped 'Issued to Student.†Score reports
issued to colleges, universities, etc. will bear the official seal of
the college and are considered official. Score report requests are
honored as quickly as possible, in the order of receipt. Provided that
all information on the score report request is accurate and verifiable,
requests are honored within one week of receipt.
