Pointers for Success

  1. Meet at least one person in each class and choose your friends carefully. Try to find students who are positive and open to the opportunities available at Jeff State.

  2. Learn your campus resources and where they are located. There are many people at Jeff State willing to help you get the most out of college. Get to know them.

  3. Continuously develop and improve your study habits. Visit the Learning Success Center. The Learning Success Center offers ways to improve study habits, identify learning strengths and weaknesses, computer-assisted instruction and free tutorial sessions.

  4. Know how to use your campus Library/Learning Resource Center. The Library provides the primary and secondary materials and services needed to support your college education. They also provide materials which support your recreational and cultural needs, as well as serving as an intellectual and cultural center for the local community beyond the confines of the college campus.

  5. Visit the One Stop Center for career information. The One Stop Center provides many career-oriented activities for our students. They include job shadowing, internship design & development, employment listings, and spring and fall job recruiting fairs. They also provide assistance with career exploration and goals.

  6. Get involved in campus organizations. The college provides many extracurricular activities and student organizations. Involvement in these activities can enrich your college experience at Jeff State. Contact the Student Activities Office, lacooley@jeffstateonline.com (205) 856-8502 for detailed information.

  7. Show up for class and be on time. The semester will fly by. Attending class will help you understand what the instructor expects and will also give your instructor an opportunity to get to know you. Attending class will also increase your chances at earning a higher grade.

  8. Read the College Catalog and Student Handbook. It is very important for you to know and understand the college’s policies.

  9. If you don’t know, ask for help.  Advisors are available daily at each campus to direct and assist you with any questions you may have or information you need.

  10. Find a great academic advisor and meet with them each term.
