Softball Game Results "WE ARE JEFF STATE"Announcement: Fall Season Results Next game: Samford University Date: October 17, 2008 Time: 3pm Place: Samford University Record: 10-9-3 Conference Record: ________________________________________________________________________________________________ October 16, 2008 Jefferson State Pioneers 2, Auburn Tigers 3, 8 Innings The Lady Pioneers scored one run in the top of the first and another in the 6th to go up 2-0 on the hosting Auburn Tigers in game one of the two game double header with Auburn and Central Alabama Community College. It took the Tigers 6 innings to get on the board scoring one in the sixth, one in the seventh to tie and the game winner in the bottom of the 7th to win. The Tigers used three pitchers to to finally shut the Pioneers down. After four innings the Pioneers failed to add to their 1-0 lead leaving eight runners on the bases. The Pioneers played solid defense behind the pitching of sophomore Alisha Smith, who took the loss, giving up three earned runs on 13 hits. (eight hits coming in the last three innings of the game) The Pioneer middle infield turned two, inning ending double plays. (643) Freshmen Fallon Whitley and Carol Ann McIntyre both had solid performances each going 2-4 in the game.
JSCC 6, CACC 2 In game two of the double header, the Pioneers jumped out 3-0 on Central Alabama in the first inning and never looked back. Breanna Segars got the win and Kristin Donahoo got the save. Segars gave up no runs on five hits. Heather Mitchell came on in relief in the 5th inning and gave up two runs on three hits. Donahoo closed it out forcing three of the last four batters to ground out to earn the save.
Again Whitley and McIntyre turned in solid performances at the plate, Whitley going 3-3, BB, 2RBI's and McIntyre going 2-3, BB, RBI.

In the final game of the night at George Ward Park, the Lady Pioneers took on the hosting UAB Blazers and got a strong defensive showingand beat the Blazers 4-0. Alisha Smith got her third win of the fall going the distance to shut the Blazers down.
Smith recorded 6 strikeouts and 2 base on balls (the last being intentionally), giving up only three hits. The defense played flawlessly behind her committing zero errors and made several big key plays to keep the Blazers off the bases. The Lady Pioneers scored two in the top of the first when Scottie Wilkes hit a one hopper between the UAB shortstop's legs to load the bases (error). Then Fallon Whitley hit a line drive up the middle to center field scoring Kimber Scott (BB)and Jennifer Bradshaw (single to right) to go ahead 2-0 in the top of the first. The score stayed 2-0 until the top of the 6th, with one out Carol Ann McIntyre walked, Rebecca Stephenson Struck out for out number two, Brittany Mitchell was hit by a pitch and Kimber Scott hit a two out, full count ball into the gap in center field to score two more runs, increasing the lead to 4-0. At that point any wind left in the Blazers sail was deflated. Smith closed the game facing only 7 batters, walking only one (intentionally) to preserve the win.
The Lady Pioneers traveled across town this past Friday night and got a 2-0 win against Alabama Southern. Amanda Talley picked up her third win of the fall and Heather Mithchell got her first save in three innings of relief. The Lady Pioneers put together 5 hits, 4 walks, 5 sac's and 1 hit by pitch to generate two runs for the win.
The Jefferson State Lady Pioneers are nearing the midway point of their Fall 2008 season. The Lady Pioneers have already played 14 games on 4 different dates. This Friday they are traveling to UAB to take on Alabama Southern and the UAB Blazers. We would like to invite everyone to come out and watch these two local teams play at 6pm on Friday, October 3.

May 5, 2008 Pioneers 0, Wallace Hanceville Lions 4 The Lady Pioneers held the Lions at bay for the first 4 innings before giving up one run in the 5th and three in the 6th, losing game three of the ACCC State Tournament 4-0. Story to follow.
May 4, 2008 Pioneers 2, NW Shoals Patriots1 The Lady Pioneers scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to come from behind and beat the Patriots 2-1 in the opening game of the ACCC State Tournament. Story to follow.
Pioneers 2, Wallace State-Dothan Govs 1 In game two of the ACCC State Tournament the Lady Pioneers scored early and held off the Lady Govs to upset the number one seed from the south 2-1. Story to follow.
Next up for the Lady Pioneers is a quarter final game against Wallace State -Hanceville at 4pm on Monday.

Pioneers(2,4), Buccaneers(3,2)
Pioneers split with the Bucs to end the 2008 regular season. On Friday the Pioneers traveled to Tuscaloosa to play the Shelton State Buccaneers losing the first game in the bottom of the 7th 3-2 and winning the second game 4-2.
Pioneers 2, Bucs 3 In game one Breanna Seagars(8-4) started for the Pioneers(31-24) and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, struck out two and walked two. Alisha Smith(15-12) came on in the 5th and struck out the first batter and got the next batter to ground out to first base to end the inning. Smith had an easy 6th striking out the first two batters and getting the third on a groundout back to herself at the mound. In the bottom of the 7th the Bucs leadoff batter, Sheena Jordan a transfer from Chipolla reached first on an error at second, was sacrificed to second on the next pitch then advanced to third on a throwing error by the Pioneer shortstop. Jordan scored the winning run on a single up the middle. With the win Shelton State secured 2nd place in the ACCC Central Conference.
Jeff State scored first in the 3rd after Jennifer Bradshaw singled to left; Scottie Wilkes singled pass the shortstop; and with two out, AJ Oliver singled to right to pick up the RBI and score Bradshaw. The Pioneers scored again in the 4th when Kaysie Kasmeier walked; Kimber Scott moved her to 2nd on a SAC bunt and Alisha Smith scored her on a suicide squeeze from third. Shelton picked up a run in the bottom of the 4th after getting a walk and two singles. In the 5th the Bucs leadoff with a single to third, Jordan stole 2nd, and scored on a single to right. The Bucs scored 3 runs(2 earned) on 7 hits. The Lady Pioneers had several opportunities to score but could only manage the two runs. The Pioneers had 5 hits, 4 SAC’s, 9 base on balls, struck out twice and left 13 runners on base resulting in a 3-2 loss.

Pioneers 4, Bucs 2
In game two the Pioneers loaded the bases in the first inning but failed to score. The Bucs picked up where they left off in game one and scored a run in the first inning after Sheena Jordan walked, stole second, was sacrificed to third and scored on a single to left. The Pioneers answered in the top of the 2nd with a leadoff single by Scottie Wilkes, Kayde Brasher moved her to 2nd with a SAC bunt and was safe at first. AJ Oliver was also safe at first after advancing both runners on her sacrifice. Summer Dempsey hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Shorty Zavala (in to run for Wilkes) and Alisha Smith hit a single to center to score Brasher. Down 3-1 in the bottom of the 4th the Bucs got a run back with a two out home run to get within one. In the top of the 7th the Pioneers got an insurance run when AJ Oliver hit a line drive just off the tip of the first baseman’s glove; Summer Dempsey walked, Alisha Smith walked; Oliver was called out at the plate on a fielder’s choice and Dempsey scored on an error at short.
Alisha Smith(16-12) got the start and got the complete game win going all 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, 1K, 2 BB. The Pioneers played hard in their last regular season game, but again left too many players on base(13).

The Pioneers played hard in their last regular season game, but again left too many players on base(13). For the Lady Pioneers to stay in contention and advance in the State Tournament next week at Veterans Park in Alabaster, they will need to convert all opportunities to score and play solid defense.
April 20, 2008 Pioneers(8,6), Buccaneers(9,2)
Pioneers 8, Bucs 9 The Buccaneers of Shelton State traveled up I59 to take on the Lady Pioneers in a double header Sunday in a critical conference series. Both teams are vying for second place in the central conference and the outcome of this series would put the winner in the driver’s seat if they would be able to sweep.
In game one, Alisha Smith(15-11) got the start and pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up 9 runs(8 earned) on 14 hits, 4K’s, 2BB’s. Maleah Coggin got the last two outs of the 7th inning striking out one. The Buc’s leadoff the game with a single to left and later scored on a pass ball to take an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 1st, the Pioneers Jennifer Bradshaw leadoff with a walk, reached 2nd on a pass ball and scored on a Scottie Wilkes double to center. In the bottom of the 5th, the Pioneers took the lead after Wilkes received a leadoff walk, Breanna Segars enter the game to run for Wilkes, Kayde Brasher moved her to 2nd on a SAC bunt and AJ Oliver scored Segars on a single to center. The lead didn’t last long as the Bucs scored three in the top of the 6th to go ahead 4-2. In the bottom of the 6th the Pioneers even the score again when Kimber Scott leadoff with a single to left; Whitley Collins moved her to 2nd on a SAC bunt and Jennifer Bradshaw singled her in on a hit to right field. Scottie Wilkes singled; Kayde Brasher walked to load the bases and AJ Oliver scored Bradshaw on a SAC fly to right field. In the top of the 7th the Bucs regained the lead by scoring five runs and took a commanding 9-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Pioneers refused to fold. Summer Dempsey reached first on an error at short and Morgan Bertram singled down the 3rd base line and made it to second when the Bucs right fielder throws the ball out of play. Shanna Housh pinch hit for Kasmeier and singled to right scoring Dempsey. With one out, Whitley Collins hit a SAC fly to right to score Bertram; and Jennifer Bradshaw tripled to right to score Housh. With two out Scottie Wilkes hit a double to center to score Bradshaw. The Bucs got Brasher to ground out to third to end the Pioneers scoring threat and seal the victory for Shelton 9-8.

Pioneers 6, Bucs 2 In game two the Pioneers struck first on a Scottie Wilkes single to center, Wilkes reached 2nd on a wild pitch and scored on a Summer Dempsey single to center. In the top of the 3rd the Bucs evened the score 1-1 with a leadoff solo homerun. In the bottom of the 6th the Pioneers went up 4-1 when Whitley Collins singled past the 2nd baseman with two outs; Jennifer Bradshaw singled to right and Scottie Wilkes slammed a 3 run homer over the left field fence. In the top of the 6th the Bucs got one run back on a leadoff single to center and reached 2nd on a fielding error and later scored on a ground out to 2nd base. In the bottom of the 6th the Pioneers picked up two insurance runs when Dempsey leadoff with a single down the 3rd baseline and Kasey Kasmeier beat out a dropped third strike to get runners on first and third. Shanna Housh squeezed in Dempsey and Collins singled to left to score Segars(in to run for Kasmeier).
At the plate for the Pioneers Kimber Scott was hit by a pitched and left the game in the 6th inning; Shanna Housh had a SAC RBI; Whitley Collins went 2-4, run; Jennifer Bradshaw went 1-4, run; Scottie Wilkes went 3-3, 2 runs, 2RBI’s, BB; Kayde Brasher went 1-3; Summer Dempsey went 2-2, BB, run, RBI; Breanna Segars scored a run; Shorty Zavala scored a run. Breanna Segars(8-4) got the win going all seven innings allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, 4K’s, 1BB.
In two games Scottie Wilkes went 5-5, 2 singles, 2 doubles, a home run, 5 RBI’s.
Next up for the Pioneers is against Shelton State this Friday, April 25 at 1 & 3 pm. This will conclude conference play for the season.
April 19, 2008 Pioneers(7,10), Eagles(6,2)
Pioneers 7, Eagles 6 (9 innings) Today’s pre-game was filled with festivities honoring the Jefferson State sophomores. The air was filled with much hoopla and gala and smiles and tears. There was a red carpet up the steps to the home dugout, The players names and numbers were etched in gold stars, photographs were taken the videos were rolling, the parents were excited, the players were excited, the Alabama Southern Eagles were patient and poised to steal victory from the Lady Pioneers.
The Eagles wasted no time scoring. In the 2nd inning they led off with a double to center , two batters later sacrificed her to third, and the Eagle pitcher singled to center to get the RBI. Both pitchers buckled down and worked out of some jams for the next four innings, allowing no runs to score. In the top of the 7th, the Eagles got a one out single to left, took second on a pass ball then scored on a single to center. Going into the bottom of the 7th the Pioneers needed two runs to tie, leadoff with a single to left by Jennifer Bradshaw. Kimber Scott followed with a single to left and Kasie Kasmeier laid down the sacrifice bunt moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Morgan Bertram SAC fly to left scored Bradshaw. With two out, Scottie Wilkes smashed a full count double over the left fielders head to score Scott to tie the game at two. In the top of the 8th , playing under the International tie breaker rules, the Eagles leadoff batter reached first on an error; the next batter walked to load the bases; a SAC fly to left scored on a run; with one out and two runners on their first baseman hit 3 run homer to left to go up four runs in the top of the 8th. In the bottom of the eight the Pioneers answered with four runs of their own to tie once more. Shanna Housh entered the game to run for Kayde Brasher at second; Whitley Collins singled to left; AJ Oliver got the RBI single to center to score Housh; Summer Dempsey found the gap in left with a two run double that scored Collins and Oliver; and with no outs Jennifer Bradshaw singled to center to score Dempsey. In the top of the 9th the Pioneers got the lead runner at third for one out, picked off the runner at first for out number two, and got their leadoff batter to strike out. In the bottom of the ninth, Morgan Bertram was on 2nd (ITB) Breanna Segars moved Bertam to 3rd with a SAC bunt and Kayde Brasher singled to left with a game winning RBI to score Bertram. The Lady Pioneers stayed close the entire game and when the game was on the line they came thru with the hits needed to put the Eagles away.
On the mound for the Pioneers Staci Stout(xxx) pitched 8 innings giving up 6 runs(5 earned) on six hits, 9 K’s, 2 BB’s. Alisha Smith(15-10) pitched the 9th inning to get the win allowing no runs, no hits, 1 K.

Pioneers 10, Eagles 2 In game two of the Sophomore Day double header the Eagles again wasted no time scoring. The Eagles leadoff batter smashed a double to center field to start the game and later scored on a pass ball. In the 2nd the Eagles leadoff with a single to left and score again on a single to center. After two innings the Eagles led 2-0 and once again were putting pressure on the Pioneers to score. In the bottom of the 3rd the Pioneers answered with eight consecutive runs. Whitley Collins leadoff with a hard groundout to 3rd base for out number one; Jennifer Bradshaw walked; Scottie Wilkes singled to left; Kayde Brasher reached on an all is safe fielder’s choice at 3rd; AJ Oliver singled to center; Morgan Bertram singled to left; Summer Dempsey walked; Kasey Kasmeier was safe on a SAC squeeze; and Kimber Scott singled on a squeeze to round out the 8 run fourth. Whitley Collins hit a screaming line drive to first to get her second out of the inning! Scottie Wilkes singled in the last run to get the 6th RBI of the inning. In the bottom of the fifth the Pioneers got a two out walk by Summer Dempsey; Kasey Kasmeier singled to left, Kimber Scott got a RBI single to right to score Dempsey and Whitley Collins made up for the two outs she made in the 4th and got the game winning RBI on a single up the middle to center to score Kasmeier.
On the mound for the Pioneers Alisha Smith(15-10) pitched two innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, 4 K’s. Breanna Segars(7-4) came on in the 3rd and held the Eagles scoreless allowing only one hit and striking out 6.

April 17, 2008 Pioneers(1,5), Trojans(5,3)
The Lady Pioneers(27-22) traveled from Chat Valley up hwy 280 to Alex City to take on division front runner Central Alabama to complete a three day six game road trip and came away with a split.
Pioneers 1, Trojans 5 In game one the Pioneers wasted no time getting runners in scoring position but the Trojans defense stiffened and shut the Pioneer offensive attack down. Kimber Scott leadoff with a hit off the out reached glove of the shortstop; Jennifer Bradshaw executed a near perfect push bunt to move Scott to 2nd; both runners advanced one base on a pass ball, but the next three batters failed to execute stranding the Pioneers at 2nd and 3rd. The Trojans leadoff with a double then followed with a triple to score one run in the 1st. In the 2nd the Trojans picked up three more runs (two unearned) to lead 4-0. In the 5th the Trojans added one more run on three singles and a double. In the top of the 7th the Pioneers finally got on board when Rebecca Stephenson leadoff with a single to center; Whitley Collins singled to left; and with two out Jennifer Bradshaw singled to left to score Stephenson with the RBI.
On the mound for the Pioneers Maleah Coggin (5-5) got the start and gave up 4 runs (2 unearned) on 5 hits, 3 K’s, 2 BB’s and got the loss. Megan Terrell pitched 2 innings and gave up one run on 4 hits, 1 K. Staci Stout pitched the final inning and gave up no runs on no hits and walked one.

Pioneers 5, Trojans 3 (8 innings) In game two, the Pioneer bats picked up where they left off in game one and put pressure on the Trojan defense the whole game loading the bases twice and each time striking out at the plate, coming away with no runs. Alisha Smith(14-9) got the start and pitched all eight innings giving up 3 runs (one unearned) on ten hits, 4 K’s, 2 BB’s to pick up her fourteenth win of the season.
In the first inning the Pioneers loaded the bases and failed to score. In the bottom of the first the Trojans got a walk and two singles to score one run. In the fourth the Trojans added one more run with three singles. In the top of the 5th, the Pioneers got on the board when Morgan Bertram reached first on an error at third; Kimber Scott singled to left, Jennifer Bradshaw Sacrificed them to 2nd and 3rd; Whitley Collins got the SAC fly to right to score Bertram and Scott scored on the over throw at the plate. In the 6th Kayde Brasher leadoff with a double over the center fielders head; Rebecca Stephenson moved her to third on a SAC bunt; and AJ Oliver grounded out to the second baseman to score Brasher to tie the game at three. In the 7th the Pioneers loaded the bases again and once again failed to score with a strikeout at the plate.
In the eighth inning, playing under the international tie breaker rules, Kasey Kasmeier in to run for Rebecca Stephenson at second reached third on a SAC by AJ Oliver; Summer Dempsey was safe on a fielder’s choice that failed to get the Kasmeier out at third and took second with some heads up base running during all the Trojan confusion. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out, Morgan Bertram got the first pitch green light and ripped a double down the left field line past the out reached glove of the Trojan third baseman to score Kasmeier and Dempsey. In the bottom of the eight, the Trojans managed to get the first two batters to first and third with no outs but, Alisha Smith stepped up and struck out the next two batters. With the Trojan’s leadoff batter at the plate with runners at first and third and two out, Smith got her to ground out to the Whitley Collins at second to preserve the win.

April 16, 2008 Pioneers (11,1), Pirates (0,2)
Pioneers 11, Pirates 0 After taking the double header on Tuesday at home against the Pirates, the Lady Pioneers (26-21) traveled to Chattahoochee Valley immediately following the games and played the Pirates at home on Wednesday. The Pioneers won the first game 11-0 on 9 hits, 8 BB’s, 4 HBP. In the second game, the Pioneers clinging to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 7th gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and an error to lose to the Pirates 2-1.
In game one Alisha Smith (13-9) was on the mound and pitched a 2 hit shutout allowing no runs on 2 hits, struck out 9, walked none. The Lady Pioneers in a hostile environment and under a barrage of remarks from heckling Pirate fans was patient at the plate and belted out 9 hits, received 8 base on balls and was hit at the plate for a season high 4 times to score 11 runs to earn the win. Kimber Scott leadoff with a walk, Jennifer Bradshaw moved her to 2nd on a SAC bunt, and Kayde Brasher scored her on a groundout to the shortstop. In the 3rd Scottie Wilkes hit a one out single to center and Brasher scored her on a two run homer to center field. In the 6th Whitley Collins leadoff with a single to center and Kimber Scott, shut the fans up with a two run blast over the center field fence for her 4th HR of the year. Pioneers 1, Pirates 2 In game two Maleah Coggin (5-4) held the Pirates to no runs on 3 hits, 3 K’s and 1 walk thru six innings. Alsiha Smith(13-10) came on to close in the bottom of the 7th and gave up 2 runs (one earned) on 3 hits to take the loss 2-1. The Lady Pioneers bats turned ice cold in the second game as they scattered 7 hits over 7 innings to score only one run. In the 4th inning, Brittany Updike got a pinch hit single behind first base, Morgan Bertram reentered to run and scored on a sac fly by AJ Oliver for the only Pioneer run. In the bottom of the 7th the Pirates leadoff with a single off the stretched out glove of Oliver, got an infield hit to the pitcher and with one out scored a run on a throwing error to first base. The next Pirate batter laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score the winning run and beat the Pioneers 2-1.

Pioneers 8, Pirates 0 On tax day the Lady Pirates from Chatahoochee Valley traveled to Birmingham to play the Lady Pioneers(25-20) of Jefferson State and lost both games of the double header 8-0 and 5-1.
In game one of the double header, Alisha Smith(12-9) was on the mound and shut out the Pirates giving up four hits and had 3 k’s, and no walks. The Pioneers got the bats going in the bottom of the 2nd inning on a two out rally, scoring 6 runs on 5 hits. AJ Oliver got the rally going with a single to center, Rebecca Stephenson walked, Summer Dempsey single to left to load the bases. Whitley Collins doubled to left scoring Oliver and Stephenson. Kimber Scott single to left to load the bases again and Jennifer Bradshaw walked to score Segars (in to run for Dempsey). Morgan Bertram was hit by a pitch to score Collins and Scottie Wilkes doubled to left to score Scott and Bradshaw. In the 5th inning Rebecca Stephenson was hit by a pitch ( for the second time) reached third on a double by Summer Dempsey (her third hit of the game), and scored on a Whitley Collins single to left. In the bottom of the 6th with one out Scottie Wilkes walked, Kasey Kasmeier in to run for Wilkes, reached 2nd on a wild pitch, then stole third. The Pirates made a pitching change and on the first pitch Kayde Brasher laid down a scary suicide squeeze bunt to score Kasmeier from third to win the game.

Pioneers 5, Pirates 1 In game two Maleah Coggin(5-4) was on the mound and after giving up a leadoff double, who eventually scored, settled down to keep the Pirates scoreless for the rest of the game. Coggin gave up one earned run and scattered 6 hits, had 8 strikeouts and 2 base on balls to get the win. The Pioneers tied the score at one in the bottom of the 4th when Scottie Wilkes singled past the shortstop and Yessenia Zavala (in to run for Wilkes) reached second on an illegal pitch. Kayde Brasher single to center to score Zavala. In the bottom of the 5th the Pioneers’ Whitley Collins led off with a single to left, Kimber Scott single to center, and Jennifer Bradshaw was safe at first on an infield hit to the first baseman. With the bases loaded Scottie Wilkes walked to score Collins, Brasher singled to left to score Scott and Bradshaw scored on a ground out to second by AJ Oliver. In the 6th the Pioneers picked up one more run when Kimber Scott hit a one out blast over the center field fence for her 3rd homerun of the year.

Pioneers 1, Bison 6 On Friday the Lady Pioneers(23-20) traveled to Wadley, AL to play the Southern Union Bison and found themselves in a stampede of Buffalo’s as the Bison scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning of game one. The Bison’s leadoff batter singled to center field to get the stampede going and after four errors, a loaded bases base on balls, a fielder’s choice, a single and a triple past the right fielder, the Lady Pioneers found themselves in the hole 6-0. The Lady Pioneers finally got something going in the top of the 4th when Summer Dempsey singled past the shortstop and scored on a double by Morgan Bertram. In the top of the 5th the pioneers were able to get their first two batters on but failed to score. The Bison won the first game 6-1. For the game the Lady Pioneers out hit the Bison seven to four, but costly errors and sloppy play held them at bay. Breanna Segars (6-4) got the start and gave up 6 runs (5 unearned) on 3 hits, 2K’s, 1 BB. Alisha Smith (10-9) game on in relief and held the Bison to no runs on one hit, 1 BB and 1 KK.

Pioneers 3, Bison 2 In game two in the bottom of the 1st the Bison managed to get on with an error in right, a base on balls, then scored on a pass ball to lead 1-0. In the 2nd the Bison’s first two batters walked but failed to score as the Pioneers defense stiffened. In the top of the 3rd, the Pioneer’s got on the board with a leadoff double by Scottie Wilkes, a base on balls by Alisha Smith, Shanna Housh reached first and scored Zavalla (in to run for Wilkes) on an error by the 3rd baseman. A Texas League single by Rebecca Stephenson scored Smith to make the score 2-1. In the bottom of the 4th the Bison led off with a walk; the next batter reached first on an error by the catcher; and a single loaded the bases. Staci Stout (2-2) walked the next batter to tie the game at two. In the top of the 7th with one out Alisha Smith and AJ Oliver received back to back walks. The Bison entered a new pitcher, Breanna Segars entered to pinch run for Smith, Rebecca Stephenson was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Segars scored on a wild pitch. The Bison were able to get runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the 7th and with two out Alisha Smith got the next batter to line out to the first baseman to pick up the win 3-2.
Staci Stout pitched 5 innings and left the game tied 2-2. Stout gave up 2 unearned runs on 2 hits, 5 K’s, 6 BB’s. Alisha Smith(11-9) came on in the 6th in relief and held the Bison to no runs on 2 hits, 2 K’s, 1 BB to get the win.

Pioneers 9, Bison 1 Saturday’s game with Shelton State was postponed due to the heavy rains on Friday and Saturday morning. The Lady Pioneers(22-19) evened their conference record at 2-2 on Sunday against the Bison of Southern Union. In game one Alisha Smith(10-9) picked up her tenth win of the season giving up one unearned run on one hit. Smith had 5 strike outs and no walks in the 5 inning game.
Kimber Scott led off the game with a single past third base; Jennifer Bradshaw moved her to 2nd on a SAC bunt; Scottie Wilkes singled to left and Kayde Brasher got a SAC fly to left to score Scott. In the 2nd Morgan Bertram led off with a base on balls and scored when the catcher threw the ball in right field on a pickoff play at first base for the three base error. In the 5th Scottie Wilkes led off with a double to left; Kayde Brasher walked then stole 2nd. Aj Oliver was safe at first on a SAC bunt that scored Wilkes from third. Summer Dempsey doubled to center to score Brasher and Oliver. Morgan Bertram's SAC bunt moved Dempsey to 3rd; Whitley Collins singled to right to score Dempsey. Kimber Scott slammed a two run homer to center; and with one out leading eight to one, Jennifer Bradshaw got the back to back home run, her first of the season, to end the game.

In the game eight of the nine starters scored to seal the victory.
Pioneers 2, Bison 2 In game two Maleah Coggin(4-4) picked up her fourth win of the season pitching a three hit shutout, striking out five and walking two. The Lady Pioneers got all the runs they needed in the bottom of the 1st on a one out walk by Jennifer Bradshaw; Scottie Wilkes moved her to 2nd on a hit past the 3rd baseman; Kayde Brasher got the RBI single to center to score Bradshaw and with two out Morgan Bertram singled to left to score Wilkes.
At the plate for the Pioneers Kimber Scott, Jennifer Bradshaw, AJ Oliver, Summer Dempsey, Rebecca Stephenson and Whitley Collins went a combined 0-13 with 3 walks and 2 SAC’s. Scottie Wilkes went 1-2 with a run scored; Kayde Brasher went 1-1, HBP, SAC and a RBI; Morgan Bertram went 1-1 with a RBI; Megan Terrell got a pinch hit single to center; Shanna Housh got a pinch hit base on balls; Kasey Kasmeier got a pinch hit base on balls; and Breanna Segars got a pinch hit base on balls.

Pioneers 0, Trojans 3 The Lady Pioneers (20-19) opened conference play today dropping both games of the double header to the Central Alabama Trojans 3-0 and 6-1. In game one the Trojans Holly Ragsdale threw a one hitter to get the victory. In game two Leslie Pickette gave up one unearned run on three hits to get the win.
In game one the Pioneers got a leadoff walk by Scottie Wilkes in the 2nd inning, but three consecutive pop ups to the Trojan catcher ended the inning. In the 6th, Summer Dempsey led off with a single to left, but failed to advance after three fly balls. Scottie Wilkes reached first on a base on balls in the bottom of the 7th, but was doubled off first on a throw from left field to end the game.
Alisha Smith (9-9) got the start and gave up 3 earned runs on 7 hits. Smith recorded no strike outs and three base on balls. At the plate Summer Dempsey went 1-2 and Scottie Wilkes 0-1 with 2 walks.
Pioneers 1, Trojans 6 In game two The Lady Pioneers led off with a single to left by Kimber Scott; Jennifer Bradshaw was safe at first on a push bunt past the third baseman; Kayde Brasher bunted and was safe at first after a throwing error at third which allowed Scott to score. The Lady Pioneers went three up three down in the next four innings until Kayde Brasher got a two single to center field and Scottie Wilkes grounded out to third to end the inning.

Pioneers 2, Bollweevils 3 The Lady Pioneers finally reached twenty wins after traveling to Enterprise, AL and splitting a double header with the Lady Bollweevils 2-3 and 4-1. In game one EOCC struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first. EOCC number two batter singled to left, reached third on a dropped third strike, their 4th batter walked to load the bases then all three scored on a bases clearing double by their 3rd baseman. The Lady Pioneers held them in check for the rest of the game.
The Lady Pioneers got on the board in the 6th when Jennifer Bradshaw drew a base on balls, Kayde Brasher followed with a base on balls, Morgan Bertram was hit by a pitch and with bases loaded Alisha Smith got the RBI when she was walked. Kayde Brasher stole home on a pass ball. The Pioneers managed to get a base runner on in the 7th but failed to advance her to home .
Alisha Smith (9-8) pitched all six innings and took the loss giving up three earned runs on 4 hits. Smith had 8 strike outs and 1 base on balls.
At the plate for the Pioneers Scottie Wilkes went 1-3; Morgan Bertram went 1-3, HBP; and Whitley Collins went 1-3.
Pioneers 4, Bollweevils 1 In game two, with a mammoth storm approaching from the west, the Lady Pioneers made the most of their three hits and scored 1 run in the 3rd inning after Kimber Scott walked then later scored on a throwing error to first base by the EOCC pitcher. In the 4th AJ Oliver led off with a walk, Jennifer Bradhsaw moved her to second on a safe bunt past the pitcher, Morgan Bertram reached first on a fielder’s choice than failed to get the lead runner and Oliver scored on a throwing error by the second baseman. With two out Whitley Collins walked and Scottie Wilkes singled to center driving in Bradshaw and Bertram to score two more. In the bottom of the 7th EOCC’s leadoff singled to left, stole 2nd and scored on an error at third base.
Breanna Segars (6-2) got the complete game win allowing one unearned run on eight hits. Segars struck out nine, walked one and hit one. At the plate for the Pioneers Scottie Wilkes went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s, AJ Oliver went 1-1 with a SAC, BB and a scored a run. Jennifer Bradshaw went 1-3 and scored a run. The Pioneers drew six walks, reached on error twice and left nine runners on base.

Pioneers 2, Eagles 3 After a 23 hour weather delay, the Meridian Community College Eagles (Meridian , MS.) traveled to Birmingham to take on the Lady Pioneers (19-16) and beat them 3-2 in game one of the double header. The Eagles led off the first inning with a single to right, a single to center and with 2 out singled to center to score a run. In the 2nd, with two out, the Eagles reached first on a walk, got a stolen base, then scored again on a single to right. In the bottom of the 2nd Kayde Brasher led off with a solo home run to right to cut the lead to 2-1. In the 6th The Eagles led off with a single to right, a single to right, then scored on a single to left to go up 3-1. In the bottom of the 6th Jennifer Bradshaw led off with an infield single to short and scored on a Kayde Brasher single to right. In the bottom of the 7th, the Pioneers got runners on the corners but failed to score.
Alisha Smith (9-7) pitched all 7 innings and took the loss, giving up 3 runs on 9 hits, 3K’s and 2 BB’s.

Pioneers 8, Eagles 0 In game two of the Sunday afternoon double header the Lady Pioneers got their bats hot and cranked out 10 hits in 6 innings of play and scored 8 runs to beat the Eagles 8-0. Breanna Segars (5-2) got the start and scattered 8 hits and got 7 strike outs and one walk to get the win. In the bottom of the 2nd Scottie Wilkes led off with a double to left, Summer Dempsey reached first on an error and Whitley Collins smashed a double off the wall in left to score Wilkes and Dempsey. Rebecca Stephenson walked as did Breanna Segars and with one out AJ Oliver singled to center to score Collins. With the bases loaded Jennifer Bradshaw doubled to deep left scoring Stephenson and Segars. In the 3rd Collins singled to center, reached 2nd on a single by Stephenson, reached 3rd on a SAC bunt by Segars and scored on a single by Kimber Scott. Up 6-0 in the bottom of the 6th, Kimber Scott led off with a base on balls, AJ Oliver doubled to left and Jennifer Bradshaw singled to center driving in Scott and Oliver to seal the win 8-0 in 6 innings. Pioneers 4, Chargers 8 The Lady Pioneers got their head coach Cammie Hallmark her 400th win on Wednesday then headed to Columbia, TN after the game to take on the Lady Chargers in a rematch of a game in Cullman just last week. This time the lady Chargers played errorless ball and broke a tie with four runs in the 5th inning to get the win.
Maleah Coggin (3-4) got the start and left the game after four with the score tied 4-4. In four innings Coggin gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits, had 5 strikeouts and 4 walks. Alisha Smith (9-6) entered in the bottom of the fifth and pitched two innings giving up four runs on six hits. Smith had 2 strikeouts and three walks. The Lady Pioneers were down 3-1 in the top of the 4th when Kayde Brasher singled to right, Scottie Wilkes singled to left, Rebecca Stephenson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Whitley Collins came to the plate with the bases loaded and singled to left, driving in Brasher. Breanna Segars reached first on a fielder’s choice and with two out Kimber Scott hit a line drive over the left fielder’s head for a double, scoring Stephenson and Collins. The Chargers managed to score 4 in the bottom of the 5th to seal the win. At the plate for the Pioneers Kayde Brasher went 3-3 and scored 2 runs. Whitley Collins went 2-3, 2 RBI’s and scored a run. Kimber Scott went 1-3, 2B, 2RBI’s. AJ Oliver went 1-3 with a double. Scottie Wilkes went 1-3 with a SAC. Stephenson reached after being hit with a pitch and scored a run.

The Chargers added two in the 3rd and four in the 5th to claim the victory. In the 4th, Kayde Brasher led off with a single to right, Summer Dempsey moved her to 2nd on a SAC bunt, Scottie Wilkes doubled to center and Rebecca Stephenson got the RBI with a single to left to score Brasher. Staci Stout (2-2,1) got the start and pitched 2 & 2/3 innings giving up 3 run2 (2 earned) 5 hits and a strike out. Breanna Segars (4-2) came on in relief and pitched 3 & 1/3 innings giving up 4 runs on 5 hits, one strike out and two walks.

March 25, 2008 "400" Pioneers (0,6), Warhawks (2,3) Pioneers0, Warhawks 2 The Lady Pioneers took a week off to rest several injured players and returned to the diamond today and split a double header with the Calhoun Lady Warhawks. For the Lady Pioneers, it was win number 18, but for head coach Cammie Hallmark it was win number 400. Congratulations Coach Hallmark for reaching the 400 miletone in your career.
In game one Alisha Smith (9-5) held the Warhawks scoreless, scattering 4 hits thru the first 5 innings. In the 5th inning, Smith gave up a single and a double to score one run and in the 7th, a double, single, and a double to score one more. Smith took the loss giving up 2 runs on 9 hits, striking out 3 and walking 1. At the plate for the Lady Pioneers, Jennifer Bradshaw was 1-3; Summer Dempsey was 1-3; Kayde Brasher was 1-2, HP; and Carrier Hosier was 1-2.
Pioneers 6, Warhawks 3 In game two, The Warhawks scored first on a one out home run in the top of the 2nd. The Pioneers evened the score at one in the bottom of the 3rd on a leadoff single by Morgan Bertram, SAC bunt by Whitley Collins and a two out single to left by Jennifer Bradshaw. In the top of the 4th, Calhoun led off with a dink single to right, a base on balls, and a single to center to score a run and take the lead. In the bottom of the 4th, the Pioneers evened the score at two on a leadoff walk by Scottie Wilkes, Brasher moved her to 2nd on a SAC bunt, and with two out Morgan Bertram singled to left to score Yessenia Zavala (pinch runner for Wilkes). Calhoun regained the lead again in the top of the 5th on a slap single to center, a pass ball and a throwing error to score. In the bottom of the 5th, Kimber Scott led off with a single to left, AJ Oliver reached 1st on an all is safe fielder’s choice at 3rd, Jennifer Bradshaw singles to 3rd to load the bases. With one out and the bases loaded, Scottie Wilkes stepped up to the plate and hit a base clearing, 1-2 pitch on a rope that hit the left field fence for a double. Wilkes took 3rd on the throw home and Kayde Brasher scored her on a SAC fly to right field.

In the consolation round of the Wallace State JUCO Invitational Tournament the Lady Pioneers faced the Young Harris State Lady Mountain Lions in a rematch from earlier this season. With injuries mounting for the Lady Pioneers, Coach Hallmark turned to freshman Megan Terrell (0-1) and gave her the ball in her first collegiate start on the mound. Along with Terrell, freshman first baseman Scottie Wilkes got her first start behind the plate at catcher. In four innings of play, Terrell allowed 2 runs on nine hits and no walks. Breanna Segars (3-2) came on in relief and gave up no runs on three hits.
The Mountian Lions scored first in the top of the 1st on two singles and two fielders choices then an RBI single to score one run. In the 2nd inning they led off with a single, a fielders choice and an RBI single to score their 2nd run. Terrell and Segars combined to shut them down by scattering 7 hits over the next 5 innings, but the Lady Pioneers could only manage one run in the third inning. With one out, Carrie Hosier slapped a line drive double in the left-center field gap and scored on a Kimber Scott single to left. The Pioneers went on to load the bases in the 3rd, but a pair of back to back called third strikeouts kept them from scoring. In the bottom of the 7th the Young Harris coach brought in his closer and she shut down the Pioneers, striking out four Lady Pioneers.
At the plate for the Pioneers, Carrie Hosier was 2-3, double and a run scored; Rebecca Stephenson with a pitch hit single, 1-1; Kimber Scott was 1-4, RBI; AJ Oliver was 2-4,

March 16, 2008 Pioneers 2, Bears 4
The Lady Pioneers (17-12-1) went 2-1 in pool play to qualify in the gold bracket and met Bevill State in the first round of the tournament. Breanna Segars (3-2) got the start and gave up one run on 5 hits in 5 innings of play. Alisha Smith (9-4) entered the game in the bottom of the 5th and gave up 2 runs on 5 hits to take the loss.
The Lady Pioneers scored first in the 3rd inning when Carrie Hosier reached first base after being hit by the pitch and Kimber Scott ripped a double to the fence in right center field, scoring Hosier. Bevill evened the score at one in the 4th with three 2 out singles that scored one run. In the top of the 5th the Pioneers regained the lead when Rebecca Stephenson drew a walk, Whitley Collins reached 1st on a fielder’s choice, Carrie Hosier beat out a bunt for a single to load the bases. Kimber Scott, with one out, hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Collins. Segars was tagged out at third for the third out. In the bottom of the 6th, the Bears lead off with a double to right, a base on balls, a single to center scores one run. With 2 outs, the Bears hit another single to center to score their final run. In the top of the 7th, the Pioneer’s bats turned cold as they went down one, two, three!
For the game at the plate, Kimber Scott was 1-2, SAC, double, 2 RBI’s, Scottie Wilkes was 1-2, double, BB. Kayde Brasher was 1-3 and Carrie Hosier was 1-2, HBP, run scored.

March 15, 2008 Pioneers 3, Knights 2
Playing in the Wallace State JUCO Invitational Tournament and after a 10 hour weather delay, the Lady Pioneers finally got to play their 3rd game of the tournament at 8pm Saturday night. The weather was clear with a slight wind blowing and the temp in the mid 50's; perfect weather for a pre spring game. The Pioneers were the home team playing Aiken Technical out of South Carolina. In the top of the 1st with two out, Aiken's third batter reached first on an error and their cleanup batter hit a line drive 2 run homer about 240 ft over the fence to put the Lady Knights up 2-0. Alisha Smith got the start and gave up both runs in the first inning and the Lady Pioneers were thinking dejavue from the previous nights lost to Snead State, who also scored 2 runs in the 1st inning. The Lady Pioneers didn't give up. They put the pressure on the Lady Knights every inning, threatening to score in each of the next 5 innings. The Pioneers stranded a total of 9 batters on 9 hits thru the first 6 innings.
Smith rose to the occasion and proceeded to shut down the Aiken Lady Knights for the remainder of the game. Smith scattered 4 hits and one walk over the next 6 innings. She struck the last 7 out of 14 batters she faced and walked only two. In the 5th inning the Pioneers loaded the bases with no out and failed to score. Rebecca Stephenson walked, Whitley Collins hits a bloop single in front of the pitcher and Carrie Hosier drew a bases loaded walk. Kimber Scott steps up and hits a first pitch line drive right at the second baseman for out number two. With two out, AJ Oliver hits her first pitch right at the 2nd baseman, who tags the runner at first and throws to first to complete the inning ending double play.
Now playing in the 7th inning, The Pioneers dug deep and refused to loose for the second straight time in two games. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the 7th, Stephenson led off with a hard hit single right past the pitcher. Carrie Hosier steps up and hits a second pitch double in the gap to center field. Kimber Scott, hitting in the lead off spot was next up and hits a line drive double into left center scoring Stephenson and Hosier. Scott takes third on the throw in from the outfielder takes 3rd on the errant throw by the outfielder. Oliver was the next batter and on the second pitch, the Aiken pitcher bounced one to the plate that got buy the catcher and Scott scored on a pass ball to win the game. Excitement and disappointment filled the air as the Lady Pioneers pulled off their second come from behind, 7th inning win in the last 8 days.
Alisha Smith got the complete game victory giving up 2 runs, one unearned on 4 hits, no BB, and struck out seven. At the plate for the Lady Pioneers, Kimber Scott went 1-4 with a double, 2 rbi's, and a run scored. AJ Oliver went 1-3 and one rbi. Alisha Smith went 2-3, Kayde Brasher 1-3, Rebecca Stephenson 1-2, BB and a run scored, Whitley Collins also went 1-3 and Carrie Hosier went 2-2, with a base on balls a double, and a run scored.
With the victory, the Lady Pioneers earned a spot in the gold bracket and will play the Bevil State Bears Sunday morning at 9am.

Pioneers 4, Chargers 2
In the first game of the Wallace State JUCO Invitational The Lady Pioneers(16-9-1) drew the Columbia State Chargers as their first opponent. The Lady Pioneers just recently dropped a double header with the Chargers at home (2-4), (2-6). In a game that was scheduled to be played at 10am finally got started at 4:40 pm at Heritage Park in Cullman, Al.
The Lady Chargers got on the board first in the bottom of the 1st inning when their leadoff batter walked, reached 3rd on a single into right field, then scored on a throwing error by the Lady Pioneers 2nd baseman. In the top of the 5th with one out, Alisha Smith doubled to center then scored on a Rebecca Stephenson single to center. Kayde Brasher then singled to left and scored Smith. Whitley Collins reached first on an error and later scored on a single to left by Freshman Kimber Scott. Columbia State got a 2 out double and later scored on a single to center.
Alisha Smith got the start for the Pioneers and gave up 2 runs on 8 hits had 2 strike outs and gave up one walk. For the game Smith went 2-3 with a double and a run scored. Kayde Brasher, Kimber Scott, Rebecca Stephenson, and Whitley Collins all went 1-3
Pioneers 0, Snead 2
In game two of the Wallace State JUCO Invitational Tournament in Cullman, AL., the Lady Pioneers met up with the Snead State Lady Parsons. The Pioneers walked he first batter, she then reached 2nd on a SAC bunt then scored on a single by the designated player. The Lady Pioneers threatened a couple of more times late in the game but the Lady Parsons held on to secure the win 2-0. Maleah Coggins got the start and took the lost giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 3 bb, 3 strike outs .
At the plate for the Pioneers, Kayde Brasher hit 2 singles to left and center field and AJ Oliver singled to center. Falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Lady Pioneers just couldn’t get the bats going in the late night game and took their first lost in over a week of play. Next up for the Lady Pioneers is with Aiken Technical out of South Carolina, Saturday, March 15th at 10 am.
March 8, 2008 4 State Sweep Pioneers 3, Warhawks 2
The Jefferson State Community College Lady Pioneers got a four state sweep this weekend at the Jimmy Stewart Memorial Tournament in Niceville, FL In two days the Pioneers beat Cleveland State Tennessee 8-0 in 6 innings; Okaloosa Walton Florida 4-3 in 9 innings; Alvin Texas 1-0 and Jeff Davis Alabama 3-2. In game four Breanna Segars got the start and pitched three innings giving up only one run on no hits, had 4 strike outs. Alisha Smith (8-3) came in and pitched the last four innings to earn the win. Smith gave up one on 4 hits.
The Lady Warhawks got on the board first on a walk, a SAC and she scored on an error to take the lead 1-0. In the bottom of the 4th Scottie Wilkes led off with a base on balls; Rebecca Stephenson moved her to 2nd on a SAC bunt; and Morgan Bertram doubled to left to score Zavala who was in to run for Wilkes. Bertram took 3rd on a pass ball and scored on Whitley Collins single to left, to take a 2-1 lead. In the 6th Jeff Davis tied the game at two after getting 3 consecutive singles to score one run. In the top of the 7th, Alisha Smith struck out the first batter and got the next two to ground out to third. In the bottom of the 7th, Smith led off and reached first on a dropped third strike. Breanna Segars reentered the game to run for Smith and reached 2nd on a pinch hit SAC bunt by Jennifer Bradshaw. With two out and first base open, Scottie Wilkes walk to load the bases. Rebecca Stephenson worked the count to full and received a base on balls to score Segars from 3rd to win the game.
Alisha Smith picked up her 8th win of the season, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and had 4 strike outs. At the plate, Kimber Scott went 2-4; Morgan Bertram went 1-2, a double, a BB, a RBI and a run scored. Whitley Collins went 1-3 with a RBI. Next up for the Lady Pioneers is a home double header with Enterprise-Ozark this Thursday, March 13 at 1pm and 3pm in Birmingham.
March 8, 2008 Pioneers 1, Dolphins 0
On day two of the Jimmy Stewart Memorial Tournament the Lady Pioneers (14-9) opened with a 1-0 win over the Alvin Texas Dolphins. Maleah Coggin (3-3) got the start and pitched 6 scoreless innings, giving up 4 hits and had 4 strike outs. Staci Stout (1-0) finished the game and picked up her first save of the year.
The Lady Pioneers got on the board first in the 3rd inning when Kimber Scott hit a one out single to left and later scored when Jennifer Bradshaw doubled off the left field wall. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the 7th inning, Alvin State singled to center field. The 3rd base coach, with arms in a big circular motion is singling the runner to score. Rebecca Stephenson fields the single in center, takes a big crow hop towards the infield, and releases a frozen rope strike to Kayde Brasher, the Pioneer catcher, who applies the tag on the Dolphin base runner for the 3rd out to end the game. For the game the Pioneers stranded nine players on base and played solid on defense to shut down the Dolphin offense.
At the plate Kimber Scott went 3-3 and scored a run; Jennifer Bradshaw went 2-3, a double and an RBI; and Rebecca Stephenson went 1-3.
Next up for the Lady Pioneers is a game with Jefferson Davis, out of Brewton Alabama at 1pm.
March 7, 2008 Pioneers 4, Raiders 3, 9 innings In game two of the Jimmy Stewart Memorial Tournament, the Lady Pioneers (13-9) were out hit 7-4, but outscored the Lady Raiders 4-3 in 9 innings to pick up the win. In the bottom of the 9th down 3-2, two out and a runner on 2nd, Scottie Wilkes was at the plate with a 1-2 count. The sun was setting to the west, the lights were on, the wind was blowing out of the gulf, and Wilkes stepped out of the box, took a deep breath and stepped back into the box and slammed the next pitch over the left field wall off the middle of the scoreboard for a two run walk off home run.
Kimber Scott led off the game with a walk. AJ Oliver moved her to 2nd with a SAC bunt and Summer Dempsey scored her on a triple down the right field line. Okaloosa-Walton in the 3rd scored one run off three consecutive singles. In the 4th Okaloosa-Walton scored one more to take a 2-1 lead. In the 5th, Carrie Hosier led off with a single to left, reached 2nd on a SAC bunt by Kimber Scott, and scored on a fielder’s choice to tie the game at 2. The game remained tied until the Raiders took the lead 3-2 in the top of the 9th and Wilkes hit the walk off two run homer to seal the victory. At the plate, Wilkes went 2-4, HR, 2B and 2 RBI’s.

Playing in the Jimmy Stewart Memorial Tournament in Niceville, Fl., the Lady Pioneers won an 8-0 decision in 6 innings over the Cleveland State Lady Cougars. Staci Stout (2-1) got the start and picked up her 2nd win of the season giving up no runs on 2 hits, striking out two batters and walking only one.
The Lady Pioneers scored a run in each of the first three innings of the game. In the first, AJ Oliver reached first on an error and later scored on an error by the Cougar 3rd baseman. In the 2nd inning, Scottie Wilkes led off with a double, reached 3rd on a SAC bunt by Whitley Collins and scores on Carrie Hosier's single. In the 3rd, Kayde Brasher reaches 1st on a fielder’s choice and scores after Wilkes hit her second double of the game. In the 5th inning, Summer Dempsey reaches 1st on an error, Rebecca Stephenson advances her to 2nd on a SAC bunt, and scores on a single up the middle by Wilkes. Brasher scores on Collins single to left; Wilkes scores on Hosier’s hit to center; Collins scores on a Kimber Scott single to right; and Hosier scores the winning run on a well executed push bunt by Oliver.
At the plate, Scott goes 2-4, RBI; Oliver 2-4, RBI; Wilkes 3-3, 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s; Hosier 3-3 with 2 RBI’s. Next up for the Lady Pioneers is Okaloosa-Walton at 4:00pm
March 2, 2008 Pioneers (2,2), Chargers (6,4)
Pioneers 2, Chargers 6 The Lady Pioneers (11-9-1) battled hard in both games of the double header with the Columbia State Chargers(4-1) but fell short 6-2 and 4-2. In Game One Alisha Smith gave up three consecutive singles allowing 2 runs to score, one unearned on a throwing error at the plate. In the bottom of the first the Pioneers struck quick when Freshman Kimber Smith led off the game with a solo home run to left field, her first has a Lady Pioneer. In the 3rd inning the Pioneers added another run when Carrie Hosier led of the inning with a single to left and later scored when AJ Oliver grounded out to second base. In the 4th, the Chargers got back on the board scoring two runs after the batters reached first on a base on balls. In the 5th the Chargers increased their lead with a lead off homerun to make the score 5-2. Alisha Smith(6-3) took the loss giving up 5 runs(3ER) on 6 hits, 3Ks, 3BBs. Staci Stout pitch 2 1/3 innings and gave up 1 run on 2 hits, 1BB. Megan Terrell finished the game getting the last two batters to ground out into fielders choices.

Pioneers 2, Chargers 4 In Game Two Breanna Segars got the start and held the Charges scoreless for the first two innings before giving up a double and a two homeruns in the 3rd. Segars left the game after allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, 1K. Alisha Smith entered the game and held the Charges scoreless until the 7th inning when she gave up 1 run on four hits. For the game Smith allowed one run on 7 hits, 5K, 1BB. In the 3rd inning, the Lady Pioneers answered the Charges three scores with one of their own when Breanna Segars led off with a single and later scored on a double to left by Kimber Scott. In the bottom of the 4th the Pioneers got within one when Summer Dempsey reached first on a base on balls, Yessinia Zavala entered the game to pinch run and reached 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by AJ Oliver. Alisha Smith singled to right to score Zavala. In the 6th inning the Pioneers threatened once again to score when Dempsey and Oliver singled back to back but were unable to score.
At the plate for the Pioneers Kimber Scott went 2-4, 2B, RBI. Summer Dempsey went 1-2, BB, run scored. AJ Oliver 1-2, SAC. Alisha Smith 2-3, RBI. Breanna Segars 1-2, run scored and Shanna Housh got a pinch hit single.

March 1, 2008 Lady Pioneers (11, 5), Lady Saints (3, 5)
Pioneers 11, Saints 3 In game one of the double header with LB Wallace out of Andalusia, AL., Alisha Smith (6-2) got the start and opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd with a solo homerun to left. The home run was her first as a Lady Pioneer. In the top of the 3rd, the Lady Saints answered with two runs of their own. The Pioneers tied it at two in the bottom of the 4th when Rebecca Stephenson hit a one out double to center, reached 3rd on a single by Carrie Hosier and scored on an error by the Saints first baseman. In the 5th inning, the Pioneers broke the tie by scoring 4 runs. AJ Oliver led off with double to center, Kayde Brasher reached first after being hit at the plate, Smith doubled to center scoring Oliver, Scottie Wilkes singled to left scoring Brasher, Hosier singled to left scoring Smith and Bradshaw singled to center scoring Wilkes. In the top of the 6th, the Saints hit a solo homerun to cut the score to 6-3. But in the bottom of the 6th, the Lady Pioneers exploded for 5 more runs to end the game. With two outs, Breanna Segars singles to center, Scottie Wilkes hits a two run homer (her first as a Lady Pioneer), Stephenson singles to center, Kimber Scott doubles to left, Hosier loads the bases on an error by the left fielder, and Bradshaw hits a game ending RBI to left.
Alisha Smith picked up her 6th win of the season allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, 3Ks. Breanna Segars closed the game allowing no runs on no hits. At the plate for the lady Pioneers, Kimber Scott went 3-5, 2B, run scored. Carrie Hosier went 2-5, RBI, run scored. Jennifer Bradshaw went 4-5, 2 RBIs. AJ Oliver went 3-4, 2B, run scored. Alisha Smith went 2-3, HR, 2 RBIs, 2B, 2 runs scored. Scottie Wilkes went 2-4, 2run homerun, 3 RBIs. Rebecca Stephenson went 3-4, 2B, 2 runs scored.
Pioneers 5, Saints 5 In game two of the double header LB Wallace struck first when their leadoff batter singled and later scored on another Saint single to centerfield. In the 3rd inning with two outs, the Lady Saints got some help from the Pioneer defense and scored three runs on two hits, two errors, and a passed ball. In the bottom of the 4th the Lady Pioneers cut into the Saints lead by scoring two runs when Summer Dempsey singled to center with one out, was safe at 2nd on a fielder’s choice by Rebecca Stephenson. Morgan Bertram’s hit to left load the bases and Dempsey scored on a fielder’s choice by Shanna Housh. Stephenson also scored on the play.
The lady Saints tacked on one more run in the top of the 7th by hitting a solo home run. In the bottom of the 7th and the sun setting behind the tall pines, the Lady Pioneers dug down deep and manufactured 3 runs to tie the game at 5. Breanna Segars returned to the game to lead off the 7th and reached second on a wild over throw out of play by the third baseman. With one out, AJ Oliver hit a hard single to left field that scores Segars. Jennifer Bradshaw also singles to left and Summer Dempsey smashed a long single that hit the bottom of the fence in left field to load the bases. Rebecca Stephenson hits a sacrifice fly to deep center that scored Oliver. With two outs, Morgan Bertram comes to the plate and looks at the first there pitches.all balls. The next pitch is a called strike; the next pitch gets away from the catcher and scores Bradshaw to tie the game. Bertram, with the count full hits a line drive to third, in the dark, that is caught to end the inning. With darkness approaching, the umpires and head coaches agree to end the game in a tie.
Breanna Segars (2-1) got the start and went three innings, allowed 4 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits, 1 K. Staci Stout (1-1) finished the game and allowed 1 run on 4 hits, 2 K’s. At the plate, Summer Dempsey went 2-3, HBP, run scored. AJ Oliver went 1-2, SAC, RBI, run scored. Shanna Housh went 1-3, 2 RBI’s.

Pioneers 1, Warhawks 6 The Lady Pioneers (10-7) traveled to Decatur, Al today to take on the Calhoun State Lady Warhawks (3-1) and was stunned by a barrage of hits that scored enough runs to defeat the Pioneers 6-1 and 17-1.
In game one of the double header, Alisha Smith (5-2) got the start and went 5 1/3 innings, gave up 5 runs on 11 hits, struck out 4. Breanna Segars (2-1) finished the game and gave up one run on 2 hits and had 2 strike outs. At the plate for the Lady Pioneers Jennifer Bradshaw went 1-3 and scored a run. AJ Oliver went 1-2 with a SAC. Scottie Wilkes 1-3, a double and an RBI.
Pioneers 2, Warhawks 17 In game two the Lady Pioneers led off with a single by Kimber Scott, Jennifer Bradshaw advanced her to 2nd on a single to center and with runners on 1st and 3rd with one out, AJ Oliver tripled to right field scoring two runs. In the bottom on of the 1st, with Breanna Segars on the mound, the Lady Warhawks answered the Pioneers two runs with ten of their own. Segars faced 7 batters and gave up 6 runs on 5 hits. Staci Stout finished the inning and pitch the 2nd and 3rd. Stout gave up 5 runs on 8 hits, struck out 2 and walked 1. Megan Terrell pitched the final inning and gave up 5 runs on 7 hits and struck on 1.
At the plate for the Lady Pioneers Kimber Scott and Jennifer Bradshaw went 1-3, Scott scored a run. AJ Oliver and Kayde Brasher went 1-2. Morgan Bertram reached base twice on base on balls. Lady Pioneers 1, Lady Tigers 14
In game four of the Gulf Coast Beach Classic the Lady Pioneers (10-5) lost 14-1 to the Lady Tigers of Chattanooga State (ranked 3rd in the nation). The Lady Tigers wasted no time putting points on the board. In the 1st inning with Maleah Coggin on the mound, they led off with a double, a single, and then hit a 3 run homer to take the lead. In the 2nd, with Alisha Smith on the mound, the Lady Tigers with two out and a runner on got a fielder’s choice, and a single to load the bases. Then the next batter hit a grand slam to take a 7-1 lead. The Lady Tigers tacked on 5 more runs in the 3rd to take a 12-1 lead. The Lady Pioneers got on the board in the top of the 2nd when Summer Dempsey led off with a double to center and Jennifer Bradshaw hit an RBI single to center. At the plate, Bradshaw went 2-2, RBI; Dempsey went 1-3, double and a run scored. Maleah Coggin (xxxx) got the loss giving up 3 runs on 3 hits striking out 2 in one inning of play. Alisha Smith gave up 8 earned runs and 1 unearned on 7 hits and had 2 strike outs. Megan Terrell gave up two runs on 4 hits.

Pioneers 1, Mountain Lions 3
In
game three of the GCBC, the Young Harris lady Mountain Lions outscored
the Lady Pioneers 3-1 to get the win. Young Harris led off the 4th
inning with a solo home run, then followed that with a double to left.
They then got a SAC bunt to move the runner to third, then she scored on
a pass ball. In the bottom of the 5th, Morgan Bertram led
off with a double to center, made it to 3rd on Scottie Wilkes
SAC bunt, then scored on Whitley Collins single to left. Young Harris

Staci Stout (xxx) got the start and held the Mtn. Lions scoreless thru 3
innings before giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, recording 3 strike outs and 2
walks. At the plate, Kimber Scott went 1-3, K, and a double. Morgan
Bertram 1-2, a double, a run scored, K and a walk.
February 23, 2008 Lady Pioneers 3, Lady Raiders 2, (9 innings)
In game two of the Gulf Coast Beach Classic,
the Lady Pioneers got a solid pitching performance from Freshman
Breanna Segars (2-0). Segars pitched all 9 innings, scattering 8
hits, striking out 5 and walking 2. The Lady Pioneers led off the
first inning with a textbook sequence of at bats. Scott led
with a single to center, Hosier had a sac bunt to move her to 3rd,
and Dempsey singled to right to score Scott. The Pioneers held on
to the 1-0 lead until the top of the 7th. With one out
in the 7th, runner on 1st, the Raiders leadoff
batter triples down the left field line, just out of the reach of a
diving Jennifer Bradshaw playing left field, to tie the score at
1-1. Each team scored a run in the 8th to keep the score
knotted at 2-2. In the top of the 9th, the Lady Raiders
moved the runner to 3rd on a sac bunt, but that was as
far as she would advance. With one out, Segars got the Raiders
leadoff batter to ground out to her, and the next batter hit a pop
up to Segars for the 3rd out. In the bottom of the 9th,
Alisha Smith moved Summer Dempsey to 3rd on a SAC bunt
and with two out, Morgan Bertram hit a 1-2 pitch up the middle into
center field to score Dempsey from third to win the game.
At the plate, Kimber Scott went 2-4, Carrie
Hosier had 2 SAC’s, Summer Dempsey was 1-3, BB, RBI, and a run
scored. Breanna Segars went 1-2, SAC bunt and a run scored.
Next up for the Lady Pioneers is on Sunday at
9am against Young Harris out of Tennessee and then nationally ranked
(3rd) Chattanooga State at 1pm.

Lady Pioneers 1, Lady Commodores 2
Playing in the Gulf Coast Beach Classic, the
Lady Pioneers lost a heart breaker to nationally ranked (16) Gulf
Coast Community College 2-1. Alisha Smith (5-1) got the start and
held the Lady Commodores scoreless for 3 and 2/3 innings before Gulf
Coast got a single to left field to score two runs. The Pioneers
answered with one in the 5th when Summer Dempsey led off
