EMS/Paramedic Program
Emergency Medical Services Technician
Emergency Medical Technicians are licensed medical professionals who
provide emergency medical care to the sick and injured in an effort to
promote health, alleviate suffering and conserve human life. Jefferson
State Community College offers two levels of EMS training and education.
The EMT-Basic level is a one semester program which may be taken for
credit or non-credit. Upon completion of these courses, students will be
awarded a Jefferson State Community College Professional, Career, and
Technical Education Certificate of Completion and are eligible to sit
for the National Registry examination and apply for a State of Alabama
EMT-Basic license. Students who enroll in the EMT-Paramedic program may
pursue a course of study which leads to either a Paramedic Certificate
or an Associate in Applied Science degree. Upon successful completion of
either program track the graduate may take the National Registry exam
and apply for licensure as an EMT-Paramedic. These programs are not
designed to transfer to a four-year institution. Students planning to
transfer to a four-year program should notify the advisor upon entry
into the program.
