All Applicants Your social security number is also your Jefferson State Student number. Indicate that number in the space provided on the application. Freshman Applicants Applicants who have received a high school diploma and never attended college must submit an official copy of their high school transcript verifying a graduation date. Applicants who have attended a non-regionally accredited high school or have equivalence to an Occupational Diploma must also have a minimum ACT composite score of 16. Faxed and hand delivered copies are not considered official. High school transcripts in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official English translation certified by the Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. International students may have additional requirements. Note: Certificate of Attendance holders will have to complete the GED for admissions into degree eligible programs. Transfer Applicants Applicants who have attended another college(s) must have an official transcript showing all work attempted from each institution attended. Official transcripts are required from all institutions attended, whether or not grades or courses are to be used. Transcripts must be sent directly from the sending institution. For Financial Aid purposes, ALL transcripts must be sent, including non-accredited schools. Applicants who have completed a baccalaureate degree and do not plan to pursue a degree at Jefferson State will be required to submit only the transcript from the institution granting the degree unless the course from other colleges are to be used at JSCC. International students may have additional requirements. Transient Students Transient students are those who are enrolled at another institution and wish to attend Jefferson State for one term only. You must complete a new application each term. After you have been admitted as a transient student an official transient letter listing the desired term of enrollment and the desired course(s) to be taken must be on file. Post-Graduate students must also have transcripts mailed directly to Jefferson State. GED Freshman Applicants Applicants who did not graduate from a high school must submit official GED documentation indicating a passing score. Transcripts must be sent directly from the GED Testing Center to Enrollment Services. Faxed and hand delivered copies are not considered official. If taken on the JSCC campus, students should have the GED Testing Center send an official copy to Enrollment Services.

Eligibility for In-State Residency Certification To be eligible for in-state tuition, an applicant must (1) be a United States citizen or be a non-citizen who has been granted permanent residency status by the United States government; and (2) the applicant must be either (A) a duly registered resident in the State of Alabama for at least 12 months immediately preceding application for admission, or (B) have a non-estranged spouse who has resided and had habitation, home and permanent abode in the State of Alabama for at least 12 months immediately preceding application for admission, or (C) in the case of a minor dependant seeking admission, have parents, parent, or legal guardian who have/has resided in the State of Alabama at least 12 months immediately preceding application for admission. If parents are divorced, residence will be determined by the residency of the parent to whom the court has granted custody. Consequently, an out-of-state student cannot attain Resident Student status simply by attending school for twelve months in the State of Alabama. Students who cannot satisfy one of the requirements listed above are considered non-residents of the State of Alabama. Certification of an address and an intent to remain in the state indefinitely shall be prerequisites to establishing status as a resident. Ultimate determination of that status shall be made by the institution by evaluating the presence or absence of connection with the State of Alabama. Students may fill out a Certification of Eligibility for In-State Residency form to for petition in state residency. This form can be obtained in Enrollment Services. Financial Aid Application Process Step 1: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To complete the FAFSA, you will need to refer to your prior year tax returns. Completing this application is the first step in applying for grants, loans, and college work study. (You may apply for aid on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov.) Step 2: Be sure to list JSCC (Federal School Code-001022) in “Step Six” of the FAFSA. Failure to list our Federal School Code will result in a delay in the processing of your application. Step 3: Mail the FAFSA to the federal processing center in the envelope provided with the application. Step 4: Be certain that you have applied for admission or readmission to JSCC and complete requirements listed below. · Official transcripts are required from all institutions attended, whether or not grades or courses are to be used. For Financial Aid purposes, ALL transcripts, including those from non-accredited schools, must be mailed directly from the sending institution and evaluated by JSCC. · Paper work must be complete including In-House Paperwork. · Most students will have to produce appropriate tax returns for themselves or supporting parents. |
